Purpose
Our Code of Conduct reflects the heart of who we are – a welcoming, safe, and supportive place for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn and grow through Jiu Jitsu.
We’re proud of our community and the standards we uphold. By training here, we all take part in protecting that positive environment. This Code of Conduct is a living document, and we’re always open to feedback as we grow together.
Core Values
- Inclusive, Family-Friendly Community
Everyone is welcome – regardless of age, experience level, or background. We train together, grow together, and support each other like family. - Supportive and Fun Environment
We work hard, encourage each other, and enjoy the journey. Whether you’re here to compete or just to get a great workout, you’ll find encouragement and camaraderie on the mat. - Personal Growth
Through Jiu Jitsu, we build confidence, discipline, humility, and resilience – skills that extend far beyond training. - Excellence in Instruction and Training
We are committed to delivering high-quality instruction in both sport and self-defense. All students, from brand new white belts to experienced athletes, are respected and challenged to reach their full potential.
Respect
- Treat everyone with respect – students, instructors, and guests.
- Respect each other’s boundaries. Students are always free to decline a roll or choose their own training partners.
- Use kind, inclusive language. We don’t tolerate discriminatory, harassing, or inappropriate remarks.
Safety
- Safety always comes first – yours, your partner’s, and the group’s.
- Train with control and awareness. Use techniques appropriate to your belt level and communicate clearly with your partners.
- Only use techniques that are IBJJF legal for the lower belt level unless discussed.
- If you’re unsure about a move, ask your instructor for guidance.
Hygiene
- Be clean, smell clean, and come ready to train!
- Keep nails trimmed and remove all jewelry before class.
- If you have a contagious condition (e.g. skin infection, flu), take time to recover before returning to the mat.
- Shoes must be worn at all times when off the mat. For ease and hygiene, we recommend wearing sandals or slides that are easy to slip on and off between training sessions.
- No shoes on the mat – help us keep our training space clean and safe for everyone.
Community Expectations
- We’re all responsible for protecting the culture of the gym. If you see something that feels off or makes you fel uncomfortable, speak with an instructor or staff member you trust.
- We encourage open communication – even small things matter, and we’re here to listen.
- Our instructors are committed to keeping our training space welcoming, supportive, and safe for all members.
Prohibited Behaviors
We take the following seriously, as they go against the spirit of our community:
- Harassment or boundary-crossing behavior, including unwelcome advances of any kind.
- Unsafe or inappropriate physical contact, such as ignoring taps or excessive force beyond what is needed to train safely.
- Bullying, intimidation, or coercion, whether verbal or physical.
Reporting Concerns
If you experience or witness behavior that doesn’t align with our Code of Conduct, we encourage you to speak with an instructor or a member of our administration team. We handle all concerns thoughtfully, respectfully, and as confidentially as possible.
We’re here to help ensure your experience on the mat is positive and safe. Your voice matters, and we want every student to feel confident bringing up any concerns, big or small.
